Movenpick Hotel El Gouna: A Kitesurfer’s View

Moonrise over the Movenpick's lagoon in El Gouna

When it comes to travel, many of us seek that perfect blend of comfort, luxury, and memorable experiences. Amidst the beautiful landscapes of Egypt, the Movenpick Hotel in El Gouna emerges as a promising destination. Known as one of the top spots for kitesurfing in Egypt, our long awaited visit was filled with excitement. While staying at the Movenpick hotel in El Gouna, on this kite trip, we sought a perfect mix of kitesurfing and comfort. However, as we stayed, we saw both strengths and weaknesses.

Kitesurfing Hub:

The Movenpick Hotel is a major hub for El Gouna’s kitesurfers. With a great location, consistent winds, pristine water and stunning lagoon views, it’s clear why it’s known. The KitePeople kite spot located on the hotel’s premisses, being a very important asset.

Accommodation:

Movenpick Hotel in El Gouna is often associated with luxury and exclusivity. From the moment you step into the grand lobby, it’s clear that the hotel aims to deliver an extraordinary experience. The attentive staff and well-appointed rooms further contribute to the initial sense of indulgence.

Though famous for kitesurfing, the services are good, but the rooms need more. Decor is old, missing modern charm. Upgrades would help guests enjoy more.

Even though the rooms are not small, the interior design consisting of having the bed in the middle of room, gives the impression of not having enough space. Other hotels we visited in Egypt had much nicer rooms.

Scenic Lagoon and Beach:

The lagoon view is a highlight. Calm and beautiful, seen from many spots. But the beach isn’t great. Unlike the lagoon, it lacks allure and it looks like it is made mostly of clay and rocks. Disappointing for beach lovers.

Gardens and Pools:

The gardens and pools left us wanting more. Gardens show minimal effort, they are incredibly dull. Landscape upgrades would help a lot.

Pools are okay but maybe a bit too small. As many people visiting the Movenpick hotel in El Gouna are doing it for kitesurfing, when there is wind, there is also plenty of free space around the pools, but when there is not, they tend to become overcrowded.

Food Adventure:

Food at the main restaurant shines. There is a great variety and delicious dishes show skill. A la carte restaurants though fall short as the food is mediocre at best, but the prices are high. Value for money questioned.

Conclusion for our Kite trip at Movenpick Hotel El Gouna:

The Movenpick Hotel in El Gouna is a kitesurfer’s choice, but not flawless. Rooms lack modern touch, beach disappoints, and gardens need work. Food is great at main restaurant, but not so much at others.

Overrated” sums up our stay at the Movenpick hotel in El Gouna for this kite trip. Don’t get me wrong, it is a fine hotel, just too expensive for what it offers.

The Singing Beach

Usually when I have more than 3 days for visiting a city, I try to also see the surroundings, where the locals escape from the crowds and the everyday routine. During the summer my radar is focused on the beaches, I can’t help it. Boston has a lot of beaches nearby, at maximum 2 hours […]

A moment of inspiration

I have never been an early riser. More than this it usually takes me a while to start the engines after I wake up. This is quite bad, especially when I travel, because if you want to avoid the crowds when you visit the more important points of interest and want to take some decent […]

Mass tourism vs independent travel

Mass tourism vs. Independent travel

Throughout the years, I tried all kinds of tourism. When I was a kid, my parents were sending me in school camps, during the holidays. Then, when I grew up, I went on some guided tours around Europe and also started to travel independently. I also stayed in all forms of accommodation: camping (both back-country […]
