Kitesurfing in Zanzibar

Discover Kitesurfing in Zanzibar: Pristine Warm Waters, White Sands, and Ideal Conditions

Experience the exhilarating world of kitesurfing in Zanzibar, where you’ll be greeted by pristine warm waters, powdery white sand beaches, and typically fantastic weather conditions.

Our kitesurfing adventure unfolded on the serene shores of Jambiani Beach. Renowned as the quieter of Zanzibar’s two main kiteboarding hubs, Jambiani offers a tranquil escape. In fact, our experience was so serene that we often found ourselves as the sole kitesurfing enthusiasts for vast stretches along the beachfront, right in front of our hotel. This picturesque solitude is aptly captured in the images below. 🏄‍♂️

Alternatively, the bustling kitesurfing destination of Paje Beach is just a short distance to the north of Jambiani. During our visit in January, Paje was equally peaceful. We’d love to hear your insights if you’re familiar with its current status—feel free to share in the comments section.

One notable distinction between these two locales is Paje’s slightly more Westernized atmosphere compared to the authenticity of Jambiani.

Kitesurfing Conditions that Captivate in Zanzibar

The allure of Zanzibar’s kitesurfing lies not only in its idyllic settings but also in its favorable conditions. Crystal-clear, warm waters greet you, inviting you to ride the waves. At high tide, you can easily launch directly from the beach, while low tide necessitates a brief walk of a few hundred meters before setting off. An advantage of the low tide is the vast expanse of shallow waters, perfect for beginners to the sport.

While exploring during low tide, exercise caution around the seaweed farms, as they can present potential hazards.

Fronting the beach is an expansive lagoon, offering exceptional riding opportunities. The nearby reef, approximately a couple of kilometers from the shoreline, provides a haven for wave enthusiasts seeking an exhilarating experience.

The Singing Beach

Usually when I have more than 3 days for visiting a city, I try to also see the surroundings, where the locals escape from the crowds and the everyday routine. During the summer my radar is focused on the beaches, I can’t help it. Boston has a lot of beaches nearby, at maximum 2 hours […]

A moment of inspiration

I have never been an early riser. More than this it usually takes me a while to start the engines after I wake up. This is quite bad, especially when I travel, because if you want to avoid the crowds when you visit the more important points of interest and want to take some decent […]

Mass tourism vs independent travel

Mass tourism vs. Independent travel

Throughout the years, I tried all kinds of tourism. When I was a kid, my parents were sending me in school camps, during the holidays. Then, when I grew up, I went on some guided tours around Europe and also started to travel independently. I also stayed in all forms of accommodation: camping (both back-country […]
